Anthony/Brady previously mounted.   "The story is well known today of the former artillery sergeant (now a civilian) who seized the fallen flag at Ft. Sumter, and, climbing "amidst shot and shell" he nailed Old Glory to a spar he found in the fort, and raised it over the ramparts.   Sgt. Peter Hart's heroic deed got a lot of attention at the time, and again the end of the war, when he was invited to raise the flag over Sumter once again, on the 5th anniversary of that memorable April day. But, then he seemed to disappear into obscurity. Until, that is, May, 1880, when a reporter from the New York Star found him living quietly as a police officer.
