Ultra Rare scene of a Union Regiment or Brigade in Parade formation around the Central Scoffold where a Soldier is about to be Executed.  From a published Cabinet Card "Troops Drawn up in a hollow square to witness the execution of a negro soldier named Johnson for rape on the wife of a Rebel soldier. In front of Petersburg in 1864. This execution took place between lines of both armies under a flag of truce at the request of the rebels.
